Art Therapy
You may have experienced that viewing art can make you feel good, but did you know that just the act of moving the color across the paper can soothe and thus regulate your nervous system? The therapeutic relationship is omnipotent and art is a helpful tool in accessing your inner feelings and helping us to communicate about them. If materials such as pens or pencils, water colors, or acrylics intimidate you we can begin with collage, create with found objects, or we can begin with an image which speaks to you. There is no pressure to be a fine artist in an art therapeutic setting. You always choose what is best for yourself.

What is art therapy? Art therapy is an integrative mental health and human services profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.
Art therapy, facilitated by a professional art therapist, effectively supports personal and relational treatment goals as well as community concerns. Art therapy is used to improve cognitive and sensorimotor functions, foster self-esteem and self-awareness, cultivate emotional resilience, promote insight, enhance social skills, reduce and resolve conflicts and distress, and advance societal and ecological change (American Art Therapy Association).
